Hello friends and neighbors.  Well my arms healed my moms in arizona and i have no excuse what so ever to get my lazy b o b..(big ole butt) in gear and back on the program.  I have noticed that there have been almost 9000 hits on the site since the inceptiong wow...  that many people read this.  thanks.  anyhows its been a hibernating winter and the doctor gave me some bad news.  the poundage gained is not equal to the work put out over the winter.  I am sadly over 300 pounds again. Dammit... but the good news is i did lose four pounds in the last two weeks.  I am flying to florida and hopefully they have no snow there.. im so sick and tired of the fluffy white sh*t i could just scream.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  boy do i feel better.  The doc gave me a pep talk the wife threatened to kick my b o b and now all is coming together in the hood.  my blood sugars have been great.  my intake has decreased.  the quality of the food i have been eating is better and actually i feel good for a change.  been drinking 32 ounces of water 5 to 6 times a day and of course running to the loo and getting rid of it just as quick... hahahaha.  well hope to hear from all my friends here as we begin another super trikin summer.   Mine is coming out of storage as soon as i get back from florida.  will keep posting when i get back.. thanks again and ill be back here the 14th of April.. GOD BLESS AND KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN.. YOUR PAL PEABOB

Hi again peabob,

Battling a weight problem is a TRUE battle!! I am not terribly overweight,
but must pay attention ALL the time to what I eat or the pounds come on
quicker than one could imagine. For the past 8 months I have been
following Weight Watchers plan to lose my extra pounds. I have been
quite successful, but for the past 2-3 months I sabotage my self by
thinking I can eat "just this little bit of a thing and it won't make a
difference". It makes a difference!

So I have this pound or two that goes up and down each week as I
continue the attempt at losing that last 10 pounds to get to my goal. I'm
a very active person, and would say I am "addicted" to exercise, so that is
not my problem. The problem is having food anywhere near me!!

Back to my battle for today, and off to my exercise class. Keep plugging
away peabob -- you will get there with one step at a time, and
perseverance.

With snow in the forecast, this may be a good time to take care of your
health issues Peabob At least you won't feel too bad about not being able
to get out there and ride!

I do wish you well, and a very speedy recovery -- stay low and follow the
doc's orders.

I'm with Splash, Peabob, the snow is welcome if it keeps you inside and full of prescription meds to lick the bronchial pneumonia.  Time enough later for riding.

After all, the first piece of maintenance to do on your trike is to make sure the engine is in good shape!

All the best,

Larry

Hang in there Peabob. I haven't been able to ride since last December and as the weather gets nicer, I feel my teeth grinding that much harder! Thing is, as you know, we ride to be healthy, riding keeps us healthy, but we've got to be healthy enough to ride! Go Figure!

See ya on the outside...

Great forum! I haven't touched a bike in 10 years, and unfortunately bloomed to 389 lbs. I am 35, 6' tall and need to find a bike. Luckily I have a recumbent exercycle, and have been trying to ride it 30 minutes, 5 days a week. Anyways, looking at a trike, but the weight capacities aren't close and I am limited to test rides. I was looking at the USX HD by Sun because of the 400lb capacity, but I just found this forum and noticed others are riding the other EZ's. Is the weight capacity that important? I don't mind USS, that is what I am used on the stationary bike, and balance won't be an issue. Will I be safe to ride other trikes with a capacity of 300lbs or less? Thanks!

Big Daddy,  First of welcome to the forum.  Lots of great people here and they all have good adivice.  Now since you are the size i use to was... I did check out the trikes big time.  I found the EZ series all have the 400 pound weight capacity.  That should not be a problem.  The price depending on your budget could be.  The wife and I both ride the EZ-AX3.  Now this is the aluminum trike.  It has better componets and cambered rear wheels.  It is lighter than both the SX-3 and the USS model, but it is more expensive.  Go figure... I test rode the SX and the USS models and found out that in my opionion the USS needs a 40 acre field to turn around in.  Its way heavy and cumbersome, however i did enjoy the under seat steering.  I thought that was neat.  I did not think it was neat enough to purchase that model.  Now the SX model is similar to the AX but also heavier,  The componets are not as quality i guess is the best word.  It rides about the same and is the least expensive model.  We love the AX model.  Some of the  good features of this line of bikes are the high seat height, 17 inches or so... you sit high to have a clear view of traffic etc....  On the other hand most tadpoles(one rear wheel, two front wheels)  aka groundscrapers is what i call em,, they look fun to ride but as i have posted in other columns,   I would need a very big crane to lower my big ole butt into one of them and hope the cranes around when i need to get out... bad knees etc.... So not knowing your budget i can only tell you what i have found and since i purchased two of the trikes... that is what worked for me.  you can expect to pay 1200.00 or so to start out and as much as 1600.00 or so per trike.  Now if money is no object,  you can check out the Pettinger models or the Keitelwise models but then you can expect many more thousands of dollars to buy those brands.  There is a company out in California and the name escapes me right now but they make a tadpole heavyduty high seat and such if you really want to check them out maybe some of our other friends here can enlighten us on the name of the company.. it slips my mind right now.. heck everything slips my miind lately... hahahah well i hope i did not confuse you and if i did its clear as mud... again welcome big daddy, we are all looking forward to reading what you have found out.. as always keep posting your pal peabob.

Thanks peabob, my budget will be up to $1500. I am leaning towards the Sun products. I found a dealer in northern Illinois that stocks them so I might be able to try them out. Luckily I still have my Trek Y5 mountain bike (yeah, never going to ride that again), so I have those high end components that hopefully can be transferred to my new bike.

Welcome to the forum, Big Daddy!  Everyone here is a first-class individual and you will enjoy your time spent here.  Paul....the name of the company you are thinking of is Tri-Cruiser....the guy is based out of San Diego, CA I believe.  If I remember correctly the seat height is on the order of your Sun trikes.   The website escapes me right this minute, but I am certain you can find it using any search engine of your choosing.

Anyways, Big Daddy, we welcome you here and will be looking to hear about your experiences soon!

Hi,Paul....I just did a bit of web-surfing....here's a link to a blog of a US Marine colonel who had a severe back injury....lots of comments on Tri-Cruisers......hope Big Daddy will come back and read this post.

http://blog.traillink.com/2009/04/02/trail-voices-noel-kelle r/

I think the outstanding feature of the Tri-Cruisers is the tiller steering system, plus Sid Gowdy's committment to making special trikes for folks with special needs.

Sam
PS there's no space between the "e" and "r" in Colonel Keller's name in the web link(it looked funny when I re-read this posting)

Thanks Paul and Sam,

Well after doing a lot of research, I purchased a new, 2007 Cycle Genius Falcon recumbent. I decided to stick with 2 wheels because of the limited room on the roads and portability and the fact that the bike will hold my weight. I appreciate all the suggestions and I just about got a Sun trike, but I got a deal on this.

Also, for anyone looking for a trike with a higher seat height, www.cyclegenius.com makes one called the Pheonix.

I will keep in touch, keep fighting the battle!

hello friends and neighbors.  Well its friday and the mrs. and I are heading for the lake for a week.  Got a couple of projects to build, a deck to seal and some other minor things but other than that the trikes are loaded and we are going to do some local trials we have not rode yet.  Hope to give you a report on all that when we get back so for now i bid you all a fond farewell until we get back.  oh and as far as the weight loss goes down 11 pounds this past week and my blood sugars have been great.....I still wont tell ya how much i weigh cause i have lost this poundage previously several times.. it just seems i cant keep it off.  im still trying though... have a great week and keep the rubber side down.  your pal peabob.

Hello Friends and Neighbors,  Well we got back from vacation alive.  Had a couple of storms that I thought would blow our trailer right into the lake but it held and no significant damage.  Did a lot of Kayaking this past week and had a blast.  We are on a 35 acre lake and its just a relaxing float between bursts of MAD speed. lol  Heck of a upper body workout.  Lost 3 more pounds in spite of all the good food we made out doors.  I ate more than I usually do but was working a lot more too.  Built the steps and table for the neighbors trailer and stained our deck.  Had a lot of fun.  So keep on posting to let me know your still out there.. Take care your pal Peabob.

Hi PeaBod and wife.  I am with you.  I also need to exercise and loose the extra insulation.   I'm  just thrilled to have someone who also understands the difficulty.  I live out in the middle of nowhere, and it is far too easy for me to find an excuse to do nothing.  Look forward to updates.  Toto (Dorothy)

Hope you both have a great trip.  I gained another 10 lbs,  so I'm soooo anxious for this snow (we get very little snow normally, bu this year we've gotten our share and much more) to leave and I NEED warm air, blue skies and  a cheerful attitude.  I work crazy shifts at the hospital, so my posting will never be the same.lol  Safe trip.

Tuesday 2/16.  Well we made it back from Toronto and I broght back 10 more pounds.  Ate way to much but we were taken to this Oriental Buffet called the Mandarin... oh that is by far the best place I have ever been to for Oriental food.  I think a lot of it is just MSG and water.  I will have to get back on track and work more this week.  but I posted as promised and in Michigan I heard only 5 1/2 more weeks till spring.  I am so ready.  Keep on posting. your pal peabob.

The scales said 370 this morning

Hi!  I bought a Terra Trike Tour.  I've only gotten to ride it twice.  Oh, my gosh!  I KNEW I was out of shape,  but the first day I rode (up hill) maybe 1/4 mile each way!  The next about 2 1/2 miles total.   I thought for certain I'd never make it back home....good thing one can "just kind of lay there in the seat and recuperate.  Toto

Hi all,
I have been reading this thread since it started in 2007. I don't post very
often on any site, but I hope to use this as motivation to help me lose some
weight. My weight the last few years has yoyo'd up and down. Unfortunately
it is UP now. I plan on posting each Sunday or Monday. I started my "diet"
(needs to become a permanent way of eating) three days ago. I'll wait till
next week to post my loss or gain . It is snowing right now in
Wisconsin so it will be at least another month until I can get back on my
Catrike Expedition.

Hi Mike_S, I'm not sure if this would work with a catrike but an old style bottle dynamo mounted on the rear wheel will act as a drag if you raise the rear off the ground and pedal. Run it with a bulb that rates higher wattage than normal to "use up" the electricity. Tis like pedaling up a hill all the time. One way to burn calories with snow outside.

Hi all,
Peabob, sorry to hear about your mother in law. Great to hear that you lost
10 pounds. Too bad you have to leave home for awhile. I always have
trouble eating well when I am out of my routine and away from home, I
hope you do better than me.
I had a good first week on my diet and lost 9 pounds. I managed to walk 1
or 2 miles each day.

Peabob, I haven't given up on you, and will be ready to welcome you back to triking when you get back from taking care of your mother-in-law.

--

Mike_S, welcome aboard!  I'll look forward to your posts.  We have quite a few riders who use the Forum to chart their progress with weight control and other health issues, as do I.  I've always found everyone warmly supportive.

I hesitate to ask anyone for personal information in a public internet forum like this, but if you wouldn't mind telling us the town in Wisconsin you're writing from, I'd be interested.  My home town is Ironwood, Michigan, one mile away from Hurley, Wisconsin 'way up north near Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula.  I've always thought about my neighbors in Wisconsin as practically family.  I've lived in New Jersey for the past 25 years, so the family is far away, but the soft spot in my heart remains.

Anyway -- nice hearing from you, and nice renewing the conversation with an old friend, Peabob, as well.

Hi all,
Larry, if I told you the name of the city I live in you would probably think I
live in New York or Minnesota. So can you guess the name of the city I live
in? I'll tell you next week if you do not guess it.
Good news on the weight loss, I lost another 2 pounds this week for a total
of 14 pounds in three weeks

Wel-l-l-l-l, there's Brooklyn, NY, but no Brooklyn, MN.  However there is Brooklyn Park, MN, and there is Brooklyn, WI.  That would be my first guess, I suppose.

My second guess would be Rochester.  There's one in NY and one in MN, and also one in WI, none of them with variations.  That's my second guess.

I'll go with those two until I find out I'm wrong.

It's like my home town, Ironwood.  Then there's Iron Mountain, MI, and Mountain Iron, MN.  Not to mention Iron River, MI and WI.  Any more Irons in the fire and we'll all be lost!

Hi all!  Congratulations on the weight loss...I don't seem to be loosing weight (it seems to just be readjusting itself to different areas)  but my clothes are fitting better.   The weather in Oklahoma cannot make up its mind- 7 inches of snow last Saturday and 60 degrees today...but a light misting of rain at times.  I always look forward to seeing who wrote in...so you're needed for encouragement.

Larry,
You did some excellent guessing. It is Rochester, WI. Its a small town and I
live about 3 blocks away from a bike trail. I can go 15 miles north or 18
miles southwest.

Hi all,
This week was interesting. I went to my monthly poker group and ate a little
too much(but at least I won). Then the next night my wife's work group had
a dinner party. I had pretty good control at the dinner, small amounts of
everything. Unfortunately they also had M&M's so after dinner we just sat
around and talked and I ate a few too many. So overall this week I lost one
pound. I was happy with that seeing that I had a couple of bad days. I'll be
on vacation next week so I will post again in a couple of weeks.

Hi all,
Over the last 3 weeks my weight had quite a YOYO experience. The week
prior to going on vacation I lost 4 pounds. I was really happy with this
since I knew I was going to be eating in restaurants on my vacation. After
returning from vacation the scale said I gained 6 pounds. I was a little
disappointed in this number since I thought I was pretty good at
controlling what I ate at most meals. So even though I really only overate
at one meal per day, that is enough to gain weight. Note to self:
remember this!!

Now that I am back at home, back in my routine, eating fruits, vegetables,
and protein. I lost 5.5 pounds, almost what I had gained.
