How does a child manage to cycle in safety when he was
born with no hands and only a small stump of an arm on one side?
Like most young boys, Ben Harkin, longed for a bike, so could
cycle like other boys of his age. The catch was that without
hands and arms, this favorite pastime of many boys seemed
outside his reach.
Then in 1995 his father Peter contacted a small firm in Melbourne
who make Ben a special tricycle, which enabled him to cycle
as well as any young boy. That tricycle was GS No. 102.
Needless to say, Ben has now outgrown his only means of
independent transport, and at the same time the trike maker,
Greenspeed, has grown from a backyard operation, to an
operation with a turnover in excess of a million and a half,
and exporting 80% of it's output.
Thus on Thursday 4th, Ben will visit the factory to take delivery
of his new trike, which will be the Thousandth Trike made by
Greenspeed, frame number 1,000.
